Arminians have a lot to learn from us Calvinists

If you're going to do something, you might as well do it right! At least that's what we tell our Arminian friends especially about our theology. But on a recent broadcast of that compromising Bible Answer Man show by the one man marketer Hank Hanegraaf--one of our favorite Calvinist apologists was subjected to an ambush of sorts. Yeah, two arminians against one Calvinist--AS IF that was a contest. No, using the standard Calvinist 'jawbone of an ass' version of refuting Arminians with the Scriptures, he went head to head with them and came out like Samson against the Philistines (oh please, I know Arminians really are Christians--at least they believe in some of the Gospel, more than Catholics anyway...I think...).

Regardless, as far as ambushes go, if you want to know what they ought to be like, check out the Dividing Line broadcast where heavyweight Calvinists like James White and Eric Svendsen tear it up with Roman Catholics like Gerry Matatics--two Calvinists against one Roman Catholic--man, that's like feeding a mouse to the lion's den. And there wasn't any angel stopping their mouths! It was great--they really smashed and bashed for the entire program. Got to the truth of the matter--after all, that's what it's all about.

So, listen here, Arminian amateurs, the next time you want to go in the ring with the Great White Shark call him up, I'm sure he'll arrange an ambush you'll never forget!

Reformed (Donatist) *Is* Enough

Hebrews 8. Do I need to say more? If I do, it must be because you're allowing your traditions to interfere with your exegetical work rather than simply letting the clear, theopneustos Scriptures speak for themselves. You should try that sometime. Nothing like clearing one's mind of all presuppositions and traditions to make the naked text of Scripture come alive and show you how to use the Gospel to excise all the tares from the wheatfield.

More Sacralist Propaganda

Recently someone under the thralldom of the AAPC / NPP paradigm e-mailed me with a citation from Martin Bucer about the Anabaptists of the 16th century. According to Bucer, "they want to be better than everyone else, but they are sorely lacking in love." This person alleged that Bucer's remark might be applicable to my brand of Reformed Baptist theology. Ridiculous. Slander, even. I'm so full of love that it flows out in everything I say. After all, don't I love THE TRUTH so much that I'm willing to say and do whatever I have to in order to defend the Gospel? Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down the good names of his friends for the sake of the pristine Gospel. Amen.

The Theme Song of This Blog!

Ok, so I'm not a song writer, but here goes anyway.

Don't Care About Catholicity At All*

[Verse 1]

Don’t know much about history,
Only care for theology
Theology’s a Platonic Form,
Big emergencies are the norm
But I do know that I am pure,
And I know that if you're pure, too,
What a wonderful world this could be.

[Verse 2]

Don't know much about Medieval Church,
Look at the pictures, it was all a bad lurch
Only care about doctrinal stuff,
All the rest is unspiritual fluff
But I do know lots about Salvation
Nothing remotely Romish in my justification
Propositions are my solid perch.

[Refrain 1]

Now I like to claim to be a reformer,
But my deeds are wrong
For what I really am, is a purist-restorer,
Ain't gonna bring no tradition along!

[Verse 3]

Now only my sect truly grasps the solas,
The rest are just inconsistent granolas
Dislike for truth, that's all the unwashed rest,
Thank God we're pure and supremely blessed
For only we are consistent with grace,
Only we faithfully run the race
A perfectionist world we want to see!

[Verse 4]

Be small-c catholic, no way I'll ever,
Donatus my love is yours forever!
Don't care if all I ever have is a sect,
Best to rub against only the perfect,
You know that I have all my doctrine right,
And those who don’t are gonna get a FIGHT!
A Pure-Truth-filled world this ought to be!

[Refrain 2]

Now I think only in terms of big-t Truth,
No catholi-city,
Ain't gonna put up with error, forsooth!
Ain't gonna practice no civi-lity!

Sing it together! It does the heart good, don’t it?

* sung to the tune of Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World”
